Support

Written for Michelle Sims, CEO, YUPRO Placement

We often hear leaders talking about women supporting women but I would hazard a guess that every woman has been on the giving and receiving of less-than-supportive encounters with other women.

When I feel unsupported or put down by another woman, here's what I do:

🔹I resist the urge to level the playing field: just because she made me feel bad does not give me permission to make her feel bad.

🔹I give her the benefit of the doubt: in most cases, women aren't trying to put each other down and hurt feelings can be caused by a simple misunderstanding.

🔹I work to rectify things, quickly: before too much time has passed I work to reopen lines of communication by saying, "That didn't feel good. Can we talk about it?"

I’ve seen firsthand what comes when we uplift and support women in the workplace. For all of us to advance, we need each other.

Let's start now.
